Swim Team Code of Conduct

The Mount Horeb Gators strive to provide a fun, safe and positive experience for all of our swimmers, parents, coaches, and spectators. As such, this Code of Conduct has been developed to provide guidelines and expectations for all people in the Gators family.

As a parent or swimmer of the Mount Horeb Gators, I understand that I am representing the Village of Mount Horeb and the Gator Swim Team, will demonstrate good sportsmanship, and agree to the following:

At all times a Gator will:

    1. Respect, encourage, and support fellow teammates, competitors, and visitors.
    2. Not use inappropriate language, gestures, or hurtful behavior as these are NEVER acceptable.
    3. Listen and show respect towards all coaches, lifeguards, officials and meet staff.
    4. Come to swimming prepared with all necessary equipment and be responsible for all belongings.
    5. Arrive on time for all practices and meets and be ready to begin when scheduled.
    6. Avoid the use of alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs or other banned substances.

    At practices a Gator will:

    1. Learn/Understand proper lane etiquette and how to swim with others in the same lane.
    2. Not interfere, disrupt, or distract other swimmer’s while practicing.
    3. Interact, respect, encourage, and support fellow teammates

At meets a Gator will:

    1. Wait in the water for races to finish.
    2. Shake hands with competitors.

If a swimmer or parent feels that s/he is not being treated in accordance with these rules they should schedule a meeting with the Head Coach and a Gator Commission member to address their concerns.

If a swimmer or parent is found in violation of the above Code of Conduct, discipline will be at the discretion of the Head Coach, Assistant Coach and/or Commission. Discipline may include:

  • 1st Offense – Warning to swimmer and parent. If the offense is by a swimmer, a written warning will be documented and sent to the parents.
  • 2nd OffenseFor swimmer: notification to parents and removal from a meet. A minimum of one meet suspension will be enforced. For parent, they will be asked to leave the practice area or meet. Swimmer/parent may be suspended for additional practices/meets as warranted by the situation.
  • 3rd Offense – Dismissal from the team for the rest of the season and possibly indefinitely if warranted. In this situation, no refunds will be issued.
