Hello Gators!

I hope that you are all enjoying the "off-season." Here are some updates/tid-bits:

Winter Clinic: January and February, 2012,
Preseason will be March, April, and May.

Open House: 4/15/12 at the Mount Horeb Intermediate Center 1:00 to 2:00 for new families, 2:00-3:00 for returning families whose last names are between A and P and 3:00-4:00 for last names Q-Z. (NOTE: Location change new is 2012).

Go gators! Mary

-We swim as a team, we should be identifiable as one. Any caps being worn at a meet need to be a Gators cap. It is the only apparel that is required by the team so we really want to look like a team by wearing the same cap. If your Gator gets to a meet and doesn't have a Gators cap to wear they will be asked to either borrow, buy, or go without one. We will have these for sale at practices, $12 a cap, cash or checks made out to Mount Horeb Gators, and you may also contact Kim Guenther (rkguenther@mac.com) to purchase one.

-Gators need to stay in the water until all swimmers finish their race, shake hands/high five, and say good job after each race.

-Swimmers need to talk to their coaches after each race. This is the best time for the swimmers to get feedback on what they are doing in the water. If they are missing this time with the coach, they are missing out on a lot of constructive feedback. One of the best things a parent can do right away after a race is ask "What did your coach say about your swim?", if they haven't talked to their coach or still have questions have them go talk to their coach.

- Summer Practice Limitations: Swimmers may swim during one practice time a day. As you know we have limited pool time with only four practice times (6:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, and 8:30 PM). Because of this, last year we limited all swimmers to choosing and swimming one consistent practice time. We are doing this again this summer. While we recognize that some swimmers would like to be in the pool for two plus hours a day and are willing to commit to such an effort, we simply don't have the pool time to do this safely at this time. (Yet another reason for Mount Horeb to build an indoor pool!) If your swimmer would like to practice more than once a day, please contact coach Mike or myself for additional information on where you can get more pool time.

Parent Responsibilities:

Volunteers - Gator app is up and running for everyone to sign up for jobs. Remember it takes 70 parents to run a home meet and Chris Hagelin is planning to run two shifts of parent helpers for on-deck jobs (similar to how we ran concessions last summer).

It's a great time to be a gator - we are glad that you are with us!
